Visible Mending

Don't throw it out, learn to fix it! This hands-on class starts with the basics of hand sewing and practicing on a provided pattern, then moves into how to evaluate a garment for repair.
From there the instructor will guide you on how to work on your own piece using provided materials. You won't finish the full mend in a single session, but you'll leave with the skills and confidence to complete it at home.
Bring a garment that needs some repair to class. No experience necessary, and all other materials will be provided!
About the Instructor
Jessi Longe (she/her) is an environmentalist dedicated to keeping clothing out of the waste stream. She organizes and supports local clothing swaps, assists at Free Stores, leads mending workshops, and co-hosts slow-crafting events that give second-hand materials new life. Jessi believes clothing is central to how we see ourselves, and that everyone deserves to feel good in what they wear. At the same time, she acknowledges the reality that enough clothing already exists to clothe six future generations, while overproduction and waste disproportionately harm communities in places like Ghana and Chile. Her work focuses on helping people reconnect with their clothing and building accountability for where our garments end up.
